13 DAYS - ROUND TRIP FOR NATURE LOVERS

A journey around Iceland wich offers you a insight into the country, its nature and people. Enjoy Iceland’s unspoiled nature, fresh air and specialities. Together we will discover glaciers, waterfalls, lava fields, volcanoes and much more by bus and on foot. We will end this round-trip with a visit to the world famous Blue Lagoon Spa.

Program "Around Iceland "

Day 1, Thu. Arrival-Brekkulækur
Flight to Iceland. Welcome at the airport and transfer to the north-western part of  the island. Drive through interesting scenery such as a 3000 year old, beautiful moss-covered lava field. Night-lodging at the farmhouse Brekkulækur (3x) (B, D).

Day 2, Fri. Peninsula Vatnsnes-seal colony-birdcliff
In the morning social walk with information about the flora and fauna of Iceland, as well as the way of life on the countryside. In the afternoon we drive around the peninsula Vatnsnes with seal colony and bird cliff. We will also visit the fortress Borgarviki and a seal exhibition in the village Hvammstangi (optional).. Day 3, Sat. Hiking-Highland
Day-trip After to the nearby highland “Arnarvatnsheiði” a massive wetland area with lots of lakes. In the evening relaxation in a natural hot swimming pool. (B, P, D).

Day 4, Sun. Goðafoss- Akureyri
Today we are driving up north, with a stop-over at “Goðafoss” (waterfall of the gods) and with a visit to the little town Akureyri. We spend the night close to lake Myvatn (2x). (B, D).

Day 5, Mon. Myvatn
By bus and on foot we will discover the area around Myvatn with its unique nature phenomena such as “the troll-town Dimmuborgir” with its bizarre lava formations, explosion crater Hverfjall and the mud-springs of Námaskarð. In the evening relaxation in a natural hot pool. (B, D).

Day 6, Tue. Dettifoss-Sænautasel-Hallormsstaður
We will drive to the East  and en route  will look at the gigantic waterfall Dettifoss and with a little luck we will watch some of the free wandering reindeer herds in this area. We will stop at a restored highland farm and at the nature miracle “Grjotgarður”. We will spend the night in Iceland’s largest woodland area Hallormsstaðurskogar.  Relaxation in a natural hot pool. (B, D).

Day 7, Wed.  Lake Lagarfljot-Djúpivogur
We will start the day with a walk through the forest, look at lake Lagarfljot which is more than 30 kms long and go hiking to the waterfall Hengifoss. We take a break at the remarkable farmhouse Skriðuklaustur, formally home of the famous Icelandic poet and writer Gunnar Gunnarson. Afterwards we will drive along the highland route Öxi to Iceland’s oldest fishing village ”Djúpivogur” with its 1069m high basalt pyramid “Búlandstindur” which is said to be one of the “earth energy points” . Relaxation in a hot pool. (B, D). 2 nights accommodation in the area.

Day 8, Thu. Djúpivogur
A relaxing day with easy hiking along the coast and in the mountains and afterwards a visit to a local hot pot. (B, D).

Day 9, Fri. Vatnajökull
Today we will be driving along Europe’s biggest glacier “Vatnajökull” and we will look at a glacier-show in the village Höfn where we will get to know everything about the ice giants. 2 nights at a farmhouse. (B, D).

Day 10, Sat. Glacier Lagoon
Our destination today is the wonderful glacier lagoon “Jökulsárlón” and we will also take a walk close to a glacier tongue  and a special trip to a little island with the possibility to see puffins . (B, D).

Day 11, Sun. National park Skaftafell
We will spend some time at the beautiful national park “Skaftafell” with its three  valley glaciers and the waterfall “Svartifoss” famous for its black basalt columns. A day for hiking (possible at different degrees of difficulty). Later we will drive through the great sand deserts and on to the mainly flat agrarian area in the south of Iceland. As usual and as the Icelanders do: relaxation at a natural hot pool (B, D). 1 night in the area.

Day 12, Mon. National park Þingvellir- Geysir-Gullfoss-Blue Lagoon
Time for the famous “Geysir”, waterfall “Gullfoss” and the national park Þingvellir. By bus we travel to Reykjanes and finally you can visit and enjoy the world-famous Blue Lagoon (optional) (B). Night-lodging at a quiet guesthouse in Keflavík.

Day 13, Tue. Departure or Extended stay in Reykjavík
Transfer to the airport and goodbye to Iceland or you can make your own arrangements to stay longer and see the capital Reykjavík.
