GRETTIR TOUR AND LANDSMÓT 2008
8 DAY COMBINATION RIDING-TOUR
Landsmót - the great festival of Icelandic horses takes place every 2 years. This year it is all happening in the South of Iceland in Hella: Tournaments, Horse-breeding Shows and Selections as well as many festivities! Afterwards we are driving to the North-West of Iceland in order to follow the track of the famous Saga character “Grettir the Strong one” on horseback. We are riding along pleasant riding-paths through the valley of Midfjördur and up into the highland area Arnavatnsheidi where Grettir lived as an outlaw. Free-running horses keep us company - varied and beautiful landscape and comfortable lodging at the friendly farmhouse Brekkulækur.
Program "Grettir Tour and Landsmót 2008 "
Day 1, Thu. Arrival-Landsmót
In the evening arrival at the airport and transfer to Landsmót where we will settle down in our tents (3x).
Day 2, Fri./Day 3, Sat. Landsmót
We have a good look around the Landsmót and watch the first exciting tournaments of the day, enjoying the special atmosphere. In the evening we go to the parties with live-music.
Day 4, Sun. Landsmót-Brekkulæklur
We follow the final results and rejoice with the winners. When the Landsmót comes to an end we head north for the lovely farmhouse Brekkulækur. Dinner and overnight this time "the luxurious way" in made-up beds (4x).
Day 5, Mon. Welcome–Brekkulækur-Riding
In the morning guided social walk around the farm. After lunch we go for a nice long ride and get to know the horses and the Icelandic way of riding. Among other things we will visit the Grettir-monument and his former home the farm Bjarg.
Day 6, Tue. Brekkulækur - Aðalból
After breakfast we are getting ready for a ride into the highlands and we'll take free running horses along with the group. We ride along a river and through a deep canyon with an impressive waterfall towards Aðalból. After our ride we relax in the natural hot swimming pool in the village Hvammstangi.
Day 7, Wed. Aðalból – Brekkulækur
Today we are riding back to Brekkulækur – enjoying the ride, the horses and the lovely view into the valley.
Day 8, Thu.
After breakfast fare-well and transfer to Reykjavik or to the airport Keflavík.
