15 DAYS RIDING TOUR – WONDERFUL BRIDLE PATHES AND EXCELLENT HORSES
Ride at low tide along the beautiful sand dunes of Hrútafjörður and Hvammsfjörður Fjord and ride along the beautiful beach at Löngufjörður on the magnificent peninsula Snæfellsnes; through the picturesque valleys of Hítárdalur, Haukadalur and Langivatnsdalur and across the mountain pass Svinbjúgur and Haukadalsskarð. Also excursions on foot and by car.
Program “The Great Valleys Ride”
Day 1, Tue. Arrival
Welcome at the airport between 14.00-17:00 p.m. and transfer to Brekkulækur (about 3,5 hrs.) where we will spend the following 3 nights.
Day 2, Wed. Get to know
The morning is at your leisure. During a ride in the afternoon you can get acquainted with the horses.
Day 3, Thu. Brekkulækur - Hrútafjörður
First riding stage to the Fjord Hrútafjörður and at low tide along the sand dunes of the Fjord. The horses stay at the farmhouse Valdasteinstaðir.
Day 4, Fri. Hrútafjörður – Hvammsfjörður
Today we ride across hilly country and uninhabited valleys to the Fjord Hvammsfjörður. Afterwards the horses take a rest and we drive to the farm Stora-Vatnshorn where we will spend the next 2 nights in a former farmhouse and a holiday hut.
Day 5, Sat. Hvammsfjörður - Hörðurdalur
In Hóll in Hördardalur, “The wonderful valley region” we will have to wait for low ebb in order to ride over the sand dunes of Hvammsfjörður. Also possibility to visit the counter-plea of the House of Erik the Red dating back to the time of territory annexation.
Day 6, Sun. Hörðurdalur - Snorrastaðir
On we go – over the mountain pass Svínbjúgur which offers a breathtaking view to the South and through the magic valley (named after the ogress Hítardalur) to Snorra-staðir. We will spend the night in a sleeping bag accommodation.
Day 7, 8 and 9 Mon, Tue, Wed. Longufjörur – Sightseeing day
Ride from Snorrastaðir along the vast beach of Löngufjörður, which is framed by lava rocks and overlooked by the impressive crater Eldborg. Short hike to the crater and longer excursion to the peninsula Snæfellsnes with its snow-covered volcano Snæfellsjökull.
Day 10, Thu. Rauðamelsheiði
Past lovely mountain slopes and waterfalls from Snorrastaðir to lake Hliðarvatn, we ride uphill to the farm Dúnkur situated on the plateau Rauðamelsheiði. Here we leave the horses in a pasture and we will spend the night at the former farm-house Svarfhóll. Hot pool nearby.
Day 11, Fri. Dúnkur - Svarfhóll
On horse-back we travel from Dúnkur to Svarfhóll, where we will again spend a wonderfully relaxing time in a natural hot pool.
Day 12, Sat. Haukadalsskarð - Hrútafjörður
After a good night’s sleep we cross the Haukadalsskarð pass to Staður at the far end of Hrútafjörður.
Day 13, Sun. Hrútafjörður - Brekkulæk
Our last riding stage leads us over a gentle moraine area back to Brekkulækur where we will spend the night. Fare-well to the horses.
Day 14, Mon. Reykjavík
Transfer to Reykjavík and night-lodging at a conveniently situated guesthouse.
Day 15, Tue. Departure
Transfer to the airport
