NEW YEAR UNDER NORTHERN LIGHTS
7 DAYS - ICELANDIC CELEBRATIONS AND COUNTRY LIFE
Winter, feasts and Icelandic way of life on the country side. Who does not want to experience Iceland in the wintertime? Northern lights, sometimes blizzards, short days but long dawns... How do Icelanders celebrate New Year? What are fairy fires? We try to get some insight in the cultural life, celebrate New Year with our hosts and gather new energy for the year to come.

Program "New year under northern lights "
Day 1, 28.12. Arrival and welcome at the international airport between 14.00-16.00 p.m. Transport to Brekkulækur. Night lodging.
Day 2, 29.12. We start the day like many Icelanders by going to the swimming pool and the hot pot. Afterwards brunch at Brekkulækur. One of evenings between the years we will attend to a local come together in the community centre.
Day 3, 30.12. Excursion by car to a seal colony, short hikes. Lunch and dinner at Brekkulækur. The afternoon at your leisure. In the evening we will read from Icelandic books, have a cup of tea and light the candles.
Day 4, 31.12. We start the day in the Hot Pot and in the afternoon we have a hike to the neighbours and look at the sheep stable. The Icelandic sheep is a special breed since 900 years. In the evening we watch a huge fire - an Icelandic tradition on New Years Eve. After the fireworks at midnight we return to the farm and spend the first few hours of the New Year with our hosts.
Day 5, 01.01. At your leisure: A hike to the hills to get acquainted with Icelandic horses? In the afternoon we attend a service in a small church.
Day 6, 02.01. We leave Brekkulækur in the morning, heading for Reykjavík. Explore Reykjavík the charming little city ay your own! Nightloding in a downtown guesthouse
Day 7, 03.01. After breakfast at the guesthouse our program comes to an end.
