Ásgarður (Asgard) is a new tourkst resort in the heart of one of the most beautiful and historic districts in Iceland. Guesthouse Ásgarður is by the town of Hvolsvöllur South-Iceland which is only 100 km from the capital Reykjavík.The main building originally housed the areas children school, founded in 1927 .It has now changed its role and has been decorated in the spirit of the Saga's Vikings.
Ásgarður is run by the owners, who will do their best in order to make their visitors' stay comfortable in every way.
Ásgarður offers accommodations for 45 guests in family rooms and private chalets. Each chalet has two double rooms, its own shower and kitchen facilities. Ásgarður also maintains a well-equipped campsite for those who want to be in contact with nature.
In Ásgarður you can take advantage of the many day trips to such scenic wonders as Mt. Hekla, the National park at Þórsmörk (Thorsmörk) and Landmannalaugar, the glaciers of Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull, the waterfalls of Skógarfoss and Seljalandsfoss and the ancient Njáll's Saga historic sites. Or take a 12 minute plane ride to the Westmann island of Heimaey and walk to the rim of the Eldfell and Helgafell volcanoes.
Ásgarður is within easy reach of an airport, a swimming pool, a golf course, horse and bicycle rentals and the Eystri Rangá salmon fishing river.
HEKLA (1491 m): One of the world's most active volcano has, in spite of its beauty, on many occasions through the centuries threatened all life in Iceland with its eruptions of lava and volcanic ashes. The mountain last erupted in February 2000 . In Europe during the middle-ages Mt. Hekla was thought to be the very gate of hell.
FISHING in the Rangá river: It has recently been Iceland's best salmon river with the greatest number of salmon caught per season. There is peace and quiet by the river.
LANDMANNALAUGAR: Lovers of nature should visit this paradise where hot water bubbles up to the surface. Geothermal springs and unparalleled natural beauty make this national park one of Iceland's most popular camping and hiking attractions.
VESTMANNAEYJAR, islands to the south of Hvolsvöllur, famous for their volcanic activity, beauty of nature, bird life and fishing industry. Only a few minutes away by air.
ÞÓRSMÖRK: An unusual nature oasis surrounded by glaciers, high mountains and great glacial rivers. Only accessible by large 4wd vehicles and buses. Bus tours from Hvolsvöllur. Very majestic scenery and a rich flora. From Þórsmörk there is a very popular hiking trail to Landmannalaugar from which there are also daily buses to Hvolsvöllur.
